Wandering around this country you sometimes come across a good idea and so was with this trip. We were supplied swags by Candy Canvas, somebody I had never heard of but they come from the home of swags - South Australia. Well, it seems like a home cause a hell of a lot of makes of swags come out of that state. Anyway, amongst their range of swags, collectively called 'The CC Swag', is a 'Tropical Swag' and this was the one we were supplied with.

Made from 11.5oz Bradmill 'Superdux' canvas, there is an ample amount of can vas used and the top one-piece canvas can be erected as a small tent if required. While the footend of the swag is enclosed and roomy, at the head end there is a large flap that can be tied to a tree or bullbar to ensure you keep dry without being fully enclosed. Top quality YKK zips are used on both sides of the swag, so you can have one side fully enclosed, the other side fully open, or whatever you choose.

What we really liked about this swag though was the fully enclosed, zipped all round mossie net. While it was made from a very fine mesh, ensuring the insects stayed outside, the big boom for tropical nights was the fact that the mossie net went from ground level at one side to ground level on the other side. In other words, on those hot nights when any breeze is a welcome relief, and there is no requirement to have the canvas over you (which is most times through central Oz or up north), then you are fully enclosed in netting.

Having used tent-like swags for a long time now, we found this swag to be cooler on those hot tropical nights. It proved to be well made and worked well under all conditions. There are four models of CC Swag, and the Tropical Swag does come in single or double versions.
