RE CANDY CANVAS 23/2/99

Having started out as a diversification from agriculture their Candy Canvas business has flourished largely they believe, from giving the quality and service they would have expected as farmers! Their range of products has grown from swags and bags to seat covers and now a Camper unit which fits most tray back utilities.

On the field day scene since 1991 Phil and Sandy Candy have become familiar and respected, with their quality canvas products, amongst exhibitors and most importantly to their many clients throughout Australia.

Their swags have met with approval not only for their quality but also their practicality as they can be used traditionally just laid out flat on the ground, but also have the room and design to be tied into a tent shape if required on hot or wet nights. Also there is a mozzy net option that keeps the insects at bay.

All of these features have been incorporated without putting any stitching over the top of the swag which means there is no possibility of leaking through stitch holes on wet nights. From this design came their Tropical swag which is unique in the fact that the canvas can be tied up completely as an awning above the swag and full length mozzy net giving plenty of air flow on humid nights!

The seat covers produced by Candy Canvas have been designed not to move on the seat and most importantly not to wear the seat fabric, thus the Candys have a special fabric made exclusively for them, the weave makes a comfortable seat cover and because it is waterproofed and Scotch Guarded the cloth underneath remains clean and dust free!

Having done years of field days Phil designed a unit which is like a camper trailer but fits on the back of a tray back utility, can be jacked up and then drive away with a bare ute. The sleep area is on top of a large lockable steel storage box and after 3 months use at field days they recognized its marketability thus after refinements are now providing a simple camper that can and has been taken to virtually every spot in Australia in the past two years.

Response from their many customers has been positive with nothing but praise of the unit as it isn’t too heavy and is so simple to use, even if just stopping for a cuppa on their travels. The other advantage is its use other than holidays, for the box is ideal to use when going to town to pick up goods etc as they can be securely locked away.

Candy Canvas has grown so much that the farm was sold 3 years ago and the business is situated in their small town of Tintinara in S.A. providing jobs for 7 and also helping to keep a small town viable.
